Luther Varsity in Southern Africa
A Place of Academic and Professional Excellence
Statement from the CEO
Luther Varsity in Southern Africa (LUSA) is proud of the achievements of its first group of exiting students and values this milestone as the first step in achieving its vision of contributing towards the development of Southern Africa by graduating students with the relevant skills, knowledge and community-centered values.
LUSA continues to develop the facilities at its Kempton Park base, to prepare and educate students from the region.
Today, we are finishing off a 20-station computer laboratory that will be ready to receive students for our accredited Information Technology qualifications. Beyond this laboratory being a teaching facility, it will further serve students and faculty alike for research and production of assignments as well as teaching and learning materials. This is again, the additional step that LUSA is taking in achieving its goals to mold students using contemporary tools, promote critical thinking and to equip them with the necessary tools to be effective leaders.
With the help of the latest technology students will be guided to become community-centered leaders in their communities, grounded in moral values and provided with the best knowledge and analytic skills available. These graduates will play a leading role in the development of the region, to reduce poverty, and the creation of a better society.
The Luther Varsity statutes and policies have been in operation since August, 2017 and shall come under review in August, 2020. LUSA’s policies remain at the cutting edge to provide a teaching and learning environment that is not only in step with the regulatory framework, but that ensures a solid benchmark to cater for our International Students from across Southern Africa. LUSA’s policies foster inclusivity and a sense of community between students and teaching staff, between institutions and surrounding cultural and industrial communities, and between equivalent institutions worldwide.
LUSA’s current Bridging Program fulfils the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) requirements, enabling students from disadvantaged backgrounds or those who did not successfully complete their Matric to access Higher Education.
As LUSA continues to deepen its training and qualification offerings in various Occupational Qualifications, it is currently in the preparatory processes to seek accreditation and subsequent registration for Higher Education programmes for Higher Certificate, Diploma and Degree Qualifications. Through this, LUSA will be inching closer to its goal to be a value-based, comprehensive institution that will combine learning, applied research, innovation, and community development to produce graduates who will be equipped with industry-relevant, academic, and professional qualifications. Through its linkages with the Ekurhuleni Captains of Industry Forum, LUSA’s courses will be integrated with the needs of the local industrial community and will be developed in coordination with its strategic network of business partners. While agreements for study attachments and internships with relevant industries already exist, these will also be further deepened to ensure broad beneficiation, growth and sustainability for all stakeholders.
In preparing for its Higher Education accreditations, LUSA is excited to activate its world-wide Lutheran educational network by means of a Sabbatical staffing program which will harness the knowledge and skills from the best international teaching staff, while exposing Southern African lecturers to an international teaching and research environment.
This system is set to allow for reciprocal exchange of lecturers and also students, not only in the region but also further afield, through the global network of Lutheran institutes of higher education.
Offering a dynamic teaching and learning environment with a diverse influence will include LUSA amongst the institutions of choice for quality higher education. LUSA will be synonymous with cutting edge knowledge, quality, community and integrity:
